Varanaseya Utkal Samaj (VUS) celebrated 81st UTKAL DIBAS at Prof. K. N. Udupa Auditorium, IMS, BHU on 1st April, 2016.


Dr. Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, Minister, Dept. of Higher Education & Science and Technology, Govt. of Odisha inaugurated the programme as Chief Guest. He spoke about the diversity and uniqueness of Odisha and Odia people. He emphasized the establishment of “Odia Chair” at Banaras Hindu University and in this regard he also met Vice Chancellor, BHU.


Srikant Sahu, MLA, Polasara, Ganjam and Purna Chandra Swain, Surada, Ganjam were the Guests of Honour. Prof. Tribhuban Mohan Mohapatra, President, VUS was the chairman of the function. Mr. Amiya Kumar Samal, General Secretary, VUS described the present and future activities of VUS. The programme started with Malyarpan to Lord Jagannath and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya and with the state anthem ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ prepared under the direction of Dr. Kalyan Ghadei. Prof. Binda Paranjape, Vice President, VUS extended vote of Thanks.


Anchor couple of national repute Mr. Hrusikesh Panigrahi & Mrs. Sudipta Panigrahi hosted the cultural programme. Nihar Ranjan Kar and Bandana Rani Barik conducted the inaugural programme. Textile designer Padma Shri Sribhas Chandra Supakar was felicitated during this programme. In this occasion, a book written on Lord Shri. Jagannath by Shri Govardhan Dewangan and two books written by Dr. C. D. Adhikari were also released.


Bhubaneswar, Odisha based NUPUR group under the direction of Guru Niranjan Rout deputed by Department of Culture, Govt. of Odisha performed Odissi, Ama Odisha, Chota Mora Gaan ti and other folk performances.


Prof. Gopabandhu Mishra, Prof. B. K. Panda, Dr. Kalyan Ghadei, Dr. Pradosh Mishra, Dr. Swarna Khuntia, Prof. A. C. Kar and around three hundred members of the society were present in this programme. The programme was cordianted by Bibhuti Bhusan Sahoo, Kamlesh Ojha, Soumya Ranjan Sahoo, The programme also attracted other non Odia and Odia loving peoples of Varanasi.




Varanaseya Utkal Samaj (VUS) in association with Trust Shri Jagannath ji & Department Of Culture, Govt. Of Odisha celebrated the 80th UTKAL DIBAS at Jagannath Mandir, Assi, Varanasi on the 1st April, 2015.


Being the Chief Guest Of the evening, Mr. Ram Gopal Mohale, Mayor, Varanasi inaugurated the Programme .


Mr. Deepak Shapuri, President, Trust Shri Jagannath Ji & Mr. Gopal Krshna Dash, DGM, SBI, Varanasi were the Guests of Honour & Dr. Vijay Ramanuj was the Chief Speaker. Prof. Tribhuban Mohan Mohapatra, President, VUS welcomed the guest & presided the the meeting. Mr. Amiya Kumar Samal, General Secretary, VUS made the people aware the Odia Society in Varanasi along with its present & future activities of VUS.


Mr. Mohale praised the Odia Society for promoting Jagannath culture in Varanasi. Mousmi, Sripati, Surojyoti, Saswati co-hosted the programme. On this Occasion, noted Tabla player Mr. Haramohan Khuntia was felicitated .


Berhampur based dance troupe “Angahara Nurtyayana”, deputed by the Department of Culture & Tourism , Govt. of Odisha, performed Dasavatatara, Dharma-pada Dance Drama, Ranapa, Nukhai bhet, Rangabati, Sambalpuri. It was followed by a grand dinner that served the passionate Odia crowd with a beautiful get-together alongside.





This year too VUS observed Odisha Day with a grand cultural evening. Dr. Subhas Pani (Retd. IAS) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The evening commenced with a JAgannath Bandana, followed by Malyarpan. Then, followed a fusion show comprising 10 musicians. The evening ended with the main dance event known as Gotipua Dance. It was performed by Odisha Culture Dept. sponsored Troupe that recieved great accolades as they gave a breathtaking act.


To mark the memorable occasion, Prof. B. K. Panda and his family, Prof. G. B. Mishra, Prof Shampa Anupurba, Prof. A. C. Kara and his family, Dr. Pradosh Mishra, Dr. Asit Sahoo were present.
