VUS adds a new special event to its wonderful curriulum. Cricket is greatly followed in India and so as in Odisha. People in huge number thronged in to witness the match organised in one of the Cricket grounds inside the massive campus of BHU, Varanasi.


Report by Odisha Diary bureau, Varanasi: Varanaseya Utkal Samaj (VUS), Varanasi organized a friendly cricket match between the Odia students of Department of Geology and Institute of agricultural Sciences on the eve of International Friendship Day on 3rd August, 2014. In this thrilling match, Institute of agricultural Sciences (IAS) clinched the victory. Chasing the target of 113 run IA, scored the last winning run in final over.


The IA S team was led by Gangadhar Nanda where as the geology team was led by Rajib Satapathy. Department of Geology were put in to bat first and lost 5 wickets in five over. However Dibyajit Sahoo played a magnificent innings by scoring 38 runs. The bowling department was led by Aditya Kumar Pagal who took five wickets, which was his career best. In the match Prof T. M. Mohapatra, Prof B. K. Panda, Prof G. B. Mishra, Prof D. Sahoo, Dr. K. Ghadei and many others were present.


The man of the match trophy was shared by both Dibyajit Sahoo and Aditya Kumar Pagal who got a cash prize of INR 500.Sripati Abhiram sahoo and Nikhilesh Singh were the two umpire. The commenting was made by Anshuman Dwibedi and Priyabrat Rai. Scorer was Adwait Ranjan Naik and Sournyajit Dash. In the prize distribution ceremony Prof B. K. Panda, Prof D. Sa-hoo and Dr. K. Ghadei were present. Members of the society and other Non-Odia people enjoyed the match very much.
